Learn guitar and break porn addiction

RECOVERING FROM PORN ADDICTION isn’t as easy as learning to play the guitar, but it can be very helpful, especially when we realize that learning to coordinate your fingers to create chords is exactly the sort of thing that the brain exercises produce, which block the passage of neurotransmissions within the pleasure sites in the brain. It would be the same as writing with the other hand; No matter how frustrating it would be, it would help reconfigure our minds during temptation.

Learning to play guitar, unlike typing with the wrong hand, is at least fun, especially when we learn to do the G chord, C chord, D chord, and the E and E minor chords. And while we learn some rhythms while strumming, we are encouraged to coordinate both hands when playing a melody.

Essentially, learning to play the guitar (and not just playing it, if you know how) is about giving the body something to do with the mind. If you know guitar, learn violin or piano.

In the time it takes to learn an instrument, a significant step is taken in starting the path to recovery from porn addiction. And as long as it’s a problem, we have to be willing to invest time to recover. However, such an investment of time is priceless because addiction to pornography needs to be overcome — it changes how the brain works and even looks.

While overcoming a problem as big and pervasive as pornography addiction is never that easy, learning to play the guitar (or any other musical instrument) is a very tangible way to deal with the impulses that lead a person to look at pornography as one masturbation aid.

Of course, the most important part of any recovery program is the processes that keep us honest and accountable—just as those involved in recovery keep themselves brutally honest and accountable before God.

Learning to play guitar can help overcome pornography addiction because teaching the fingers to do something complex uses a part of the brain that suppresses the part of the brain that deals with pornography. This gives a person impulse control when they have the impulse to look at pornography.

This principle is easy to apply when learning something new that requires our fine motor focus; The more fun the new thing is, the better.
