Is Technology Aiding Creativity?

Technology will be a barrier to creativity until its potential is realised. The more we use the possibilities of technology, the more creative we become. When we see a screen, cell phone, tablet or computer, we need to see it as a medium for creative expression.

Research has shown that everyone is born with creative powers, some are creatively active and others let creativity rest. The creative potential in our lives is immense and we need to unleash it. A question that often crosses our minds is: How does it work? In this age of technology, it’s much easier to keep creativity intact and free-flowing.

Education System

The restricted education system prevents students from thinking creatively, resulting in assembly line workers rather than intellectually creative individuals. To address this situation, the need of the hour is to bring creativity back into the classroom and use technology to enhance it.

With technology’s ability to transcend time and space, students have more opportunities to create creative assignments and projects on the fly. As colleges encourage the use of technology in classrooms, many educators support the creative minds of students. Many universities are turning to ICT (Information Communication Technology) to bring technology and creativity together for their students.

Creativity, technology and students

Technology has given engineering students the opportunity to be creative and innovative. Streams like Robotic have given students a chance to play around with it and create something more human. For these students, the use of technology and creativity is career-ready.

For media students, professors give more opportunities and freedom to create and design assignments. The animation and games industry is technology and creativity driven. Students in this industry rely on technology and programming to create new games and innovative solutions in everyday life. The media industry uses technology creatively to bring news, views and events to different platforms. Creativity and technology are inextricably linked in the film, animation and media industries.

Newage social media is also fueling creativity among Gen-X students. On platforms like YouTube, Instagram and Tumblr, students use technology and creativity to create resources and information that are accessible worldwide. Students can collaborate with peers around the world, engage in online discussions on a variety of topics, and generate creative results.

As the new millennium dawns, students are using technology to expand their creativity inside and outside of the classroom. It’s like we’re using both sides of our brain to push technology to increase our creativity.
