Moodle Up A Campus – Transform Education With Your Own Virtual Classroom For 21st Century Learning

Now hold on tight for a truly fascinating journey into how Moodle works!

In the last 10 months I have embarked on an incredibly technical journey. When I decided to build an online virtual campus, I knew I would need all the help I could get. I’m a complete novice when it comes to website builders. HTML what? So after deciding that the Moodle learning platform is my vehicle, I had to learn to drive – pretty quickly!

A Google search brought up a few posts on Moodle and I chose Jason Cole’s ‘Using Moodle’. I chose this publication because it really nailed it. Using Moodle. Yes, I would do that very often. That makes sense. Incredibly, people are more likely to learn when what they’re learning makes sense. That’s part of that gut feeling scenario, I think. So, trusting my gut feeling, I eagerly awaited the arrival of my personal copy of Using Moodle.

Everything was set. My moodle – LEER Moodle – was ready to go and to be built upon. I opened my Moodle publication and laughed. Incredibly, the foreword outlines exceptionally well what the Moodle actually is! You might ask, “Well, that seems pretty obvious of course”. I have read and received a number of technical publications that assume the reader already has a PhD in the field! Which I think pretty much defeats the purpose of a text when you’re writing for those who already know!

I read my Moodle Bible step by step and created an amazing virtual campus step by step! I was so enthralled throughout the book that the content matched the scenario I was experiencing on my computer screen! This kind of consistency in technical writing is sometimes very difficult to achieve as technology moves at the speed of light!

Jason Cole gets busy with his explanations of some pretty techy, potentially boring content. The fact that you feel so successful in what you build transcends all engineering problems. Cole beautifully integrates this exciting new knowledge into your previous teaching and learning experiences. Throughout the process he offers suggestions for classroom integration and how to stay sane throughout the process!

Reading this book has taken my life, learning, and teaching in a whole new direction. Technology brings exciting experiences to all who are ready to embrace it!
