If you have decided to go to college through an online distance learning program, there are a few things you should know before you begin. This listing should be considered a general guide on the subject and not a substitute for the policies of the university supporting the online educational program you will be attending.
Online education courses are just as “real” as “real” colleges
For some reason, many students who start distance learning are under the impression that this is not a “real” college, so it doesn’t matter if they finish the coursework on time, pass the exams, etc. This is also common in Adults returning to school after educational failure as well as young students fresh out of high school. This type of attitude is a recipe for failure in any educational program. Remember that it is your time and money that is going into this; You want to be sure you’re getting the most out of what you can.
School supplies are your responsibility
If you attended a traditional university, you would expect to pay for your books, pens, paper, and other items necessary for your education. Taking online educational courses is no different. Stocks are different; You will need a computer, internet access (preferably broadband), email and special software to complete your online courses. In most cases these are all things that you have to provide yourself. If you find a college that will provide you with a PC, you will probably want to check their accreditation or have your email sent to [email protected] because you found yourself a fly-by-night university.
Financial aid is available to those who qualify
Many students miss college because they feel they cannot afford it. Perhaps their parents were unwilling or unable to pay for college, but they were making too much money for the student to be eligible for assistance. Then, as older adults, they don’t continue their education because they still feel they can’t afford it. Keep in mind that students in online education programs from accredited schools may qualify for many of the same scholarships as in on-campus programs. Don’t miss your opportunity because you think you can’t afford to pay for your online education.
