E-learning is the abbreviation for “electronic learning”. It is a learning system that uses the internet to teach individuals. It is important to have a strategy when setting the framework for an e-learning program. A learner needs a structured program to understand the goals and ultimately deliver the desired outcome. The last step in an e-learning program is to be able to logically explain how the objectives were achieved.
Before starting a program, it is important to understand the mental state of the audience, such as: B. Attitudes towards computer-based learning, motivating factors for wanting to be trained, comfort in using technology, and willingness to train. Once these factors are in place, the strategy for running an e-learning program can be determined quite easily.
The e-learning strategy consists of key elements such as technology, content, support, communication and financial analysis. The technology used to deliver an e-learning program is synchronous or asynchronous. With synchronous technology, there is real-time interaction between the trainer and the learner. It uses a web URL for learners to tune in and includes web seminars, webcasts and chats. With asynchronous technology, the learner controls the time, place and content they watch. This includes web-based training, knowledge portals and help systems. Sometimes synchronous and asynchronous can also be mixed as a solution to an overall program.
Content forms the backbone of an e-learning program and should be delivered under the guidance of an SME or ‘subject matter expert’. Interactive simulations should be obtained from instructional designers. The quality of the content should be of high standards in order to meet the program’s goals and achieve a desirable outcome.
Each program must have a support system—a user ID and password to start the program, troubleshooting options for learners, and online help to answer learner questions. It is important to determine how the program will be successfully assigned, tracked and managed.
Communication is key to a successful e-learning program. A personal conversation with the students by counselors helps. Financial analysis of a program is important; as it determines the type of technology, supporting hardware/software, content authoring tools, etc. By clearly defining these essential elements, it is possible to develop a coherent strategy for a profitable, educational and successful e-learning program.
